![]() ![]() The hugely popular event has raised and donated more than $45 million to worthy youth-based organizations over the course of its 25-year history. This world-class charity fundraiser, held yearly in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico the last Wednesday through Sunday in June, combines spectacular deep-sea fishing and golfing on Mexico's finest courses with beautiful accommodations and top-notch musical entertainment. ![]() The Stars & Stripes Tournament is now an established golf tournament, fishing tournament and music festival. ![]() When you donate to Stars & Stripes, proceeds are used to match dollars raised by the beneficiary charities, allowing the money they raise to increase and create more impact. Team registration fees pay for all costs of the event. The Stars & Stripes beneficiaries receive much-needed financial assistance which they can use to expand their programs. Since then, the tournament has grown to include multiple children's charities based in Southern California and Mexico, and two honorary charities. Founder, Dicko Gebhard, wanted to create a fundraiser unlike any other and combine fishing, golfing and music. He says these represent ‘those coming to America with hopes of making it and pursuing something big but within their reach’.Named after the children it helps - the real stars of the tournament - Stars & Stripes is represented by the stripes of the original marlin of the Tournament, and our guests contain the characteristics of gold, as in "solid, strong, beautiful and valuable." Stars & Stripes began in 1996 as a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. At the centre, we see people walking through a field of stars. Look closely and you’ll recognise embedded elements of the orchestra’s programming, such as John Williams, Hollywood and the clarinet from Copland’s Clarinet Concerto other elements reflect more ‘the essence of American music like jazz and blues and people finding their way’, says DeLorenzo. I wanted everything to be responding and in communication with everything else.’ So that is why and how I created this overwhelming image. ![]() It’s always responding to the moment around it. Music, especially in America, is an art form that is layered and influenced by everything around it – the cultural moment, politics, social structures, fashion, work, other music – it’s never isolated. Of his Made in America illustration, DeLorenzo says, ‘I took the visual theme of “Stars and Stripes” and reduced it down to its basic graphic elements, all the while trying to tell the varied and dynamic history of American music. I try to make an image that can tickle some part of your mind by manipulating shapes and lines from the world around us.’ Music in the moment He says he aims to ‘find clever solutions to a problem or task in a simple and effectively minimal style. He says, ‘I really like to work with clients that make stuff, whether it’s clothes, guitars, drinks, food, films… I like to be involved and a part of that process where the other side understands the care and quality of image and craft.’ Tickling the mindĪ graffiti-like style inventively combining simple symbols and elements with clear lines characterises DeLorenzo’s work. His clients include Apple, airbnb, Twitter, Google, Original Penguin, The New York Times, The New Yorker and The Sunday Times. DeLorenzo, who lives and works in Boston, does both commissioned and non-commissioned work. ![]()
